The 26th September marks the start of our Autumnal focus on sculptures, coinciding nicely with the Bayfield Sculpture Trail which follows a route through the valley of the River Glaven and the grounds of the historic Bayfield Estate where Birdscapes is located. We have some fantastic new additions to the sculptures on show in the gallery including some show stopppers! “Big Bertha” has arrived, a magnificant lifesize bronze resin sculpture of a famous East Anglian carp jointly created by Oswaldo Merchor and Tracy Newman. Other new works have arrived from Andy Jarrett including his hypnotic spinning fish bowl. We have a very fresh delivery of handmade ceramic sculptures from Karen Fawcett, as well as wooden carved fungi from Keith Zealand and we welcome two new artists to the gallery: Jean Cunion and her fun and characterful pointy birds, alongside Jane Gibson who creates intricate wirework birds, all of which bring very different styles to the collection. An exhibition of wildlife watercolours by Jonathan Pomroy SWLA, will begin at midday on Saturday 10th October.  Jonathan, a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists, is renowned for his paintings of summer swifts, and autumnal North Norfolk skies with skeins of Pink-footed geese, in flight over coastal mud-flats and marshes, having arrived after their migration from Iceland and Greenland.  Whatever the various subjects depicted in these new works, Jonathan’s exhibition is sure to be a source of artistic delight for his many fans.

Karen is coming to visit us once again on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th October to demonstrate her incredible skill as a sculptor and ceramascist. The Sunday will be a repeat of the Saturday, so you only need to make time to visit on one of the days! The demonstration will be split in to two, with a morning session from 11am to 1pm focusing on working and moulding the raw clay. Following a break for lunch, the afternoon session will commence at 2pm, and run until 4pm, and will focus more on the hand painting and glazing of her fantastic sculptures.

The event is free to attend, but we kindly ask please, if you are intending on joining us on either day, to let us know in advance so that we can have an idea of numbers. We are able to reserve seats for the first 20 people to put their names down each day, after which seating will be on a first come, first served basis. There will also be standing room.

Breakfast and lunches, teas, coffees and cakes will be available at The Glaven Bistro next door, but if you plan on eating there, please ensure you book a table in advance to avoid disappointment. We look forward to seeing you!

Our Christmas and Winter Exhibition opens at noon on Saturday 14th November. Highlights for this year in include last copies of 4 rare Phil Greenwood RE etchings, and 4 rarely available Robert Gillmor MBE linocuts that have come to us from a collector. Along side these rarities, we will have a host of new work by Society of Wildlife Artist members that has been freshly delivered from the Mall Galleries, London following the recent SWLA annual exhibition “The Natural Eye”.
